What do children aged 6 to 12 do in the Elementary Programme?

Elementary children:
•   Are developing abstract thought
•   Are developing logic
•   Are developing social abilities.
•   have a great imagination
•   are learning to express themselves.
•   are keenly interested in moral issues and in using their own judgement,
•   are fascinated with classification
•   hunger for the acquisition of culture
•   want to understand the reasons for things
•   are achieving mental independence.

We feed these interests through the Five Great Lessons:
1.   the History of the Universe (both the secular and biblical versions),
2.   the History of Life on Earth
3.   The History of Human Beings
4.   the History of Communication
5.   the History of Numbers and Mathematics
In giving them this, we essentially give them the universe, and their place within it.

All of the curricula are an integrated and interconnected web of learning, within which the children explore their own interests, touching on each area as they learn about what captures their mind and imagination.

In doing so, they learn and develop:
•   strong academics
•   research skills
•   problem solving skills
•   resourcefulness
•   critical thinking
•   respect for themselves and each other
•   group communication skills
•   teamwork
They also learn the greater lesson that nothing exists in isolation.

The Elementary Program at MJDS meets and often exceeds the requirements and outcomes set by the Ministry of Education for this age group and grade level, while at the same time providing truly holistic and individualized education.
